Word Blocks

Hand painted wooden cubes - an interactive piece with words and images coming from conversations.

Featured on the black sides are awkward moments and things that stop us talking freely. Contrasted with the white zones which include words and images to encourage conversation. Two panels per block are nature and geometric inspired shapes, linking to the silent conversation spaces.

As an art piece the block can be changed by the viewer, by guests and friends. I love that they can be a solo block or work as a set.

I've always felt awkward in conversations (even though I'm told otherwise), the sides put a visual
feel to those moments with a dash of humour. This piece harks back to simple childhood toy blocks. Weave in the art of play and in leaps conversation - either internal or between people. Lovely wee loop there hey.

Created for my first solo art show, PrettyUgly in the tail end of 2019.
