A bright colour explosion, the ‘Eyeris’ is made up of an iris nebula, bearded iris and a human iris. Within the smattering of stars, sits the Pleiades constellation, which is visible during Matariki and the Winter Solstice. Matariki is a time for planting the new season’s crop, for people to gather and reflect on the past and future.

This artwork was created for a group show ‘Soulstice’ in Whakatāne. The ideas for this piece stem from looking within, reflecting on what has been in order to rejuvenate. The nebula is for endless possibilities and the vastness inside, iris for blooming and discovering something new, the eye is looking for new potential, building on the strength of past learning.
